Depression has played a major role in my life and it was not a nice place. I believe no one should have to go through it alone, nor should those close to them be unaware of what they are going through. Because most of my circle is between 16 and 24, if you are reading this, you are most likely in this age range. Statistically speaking, 1 in 4 of you have met the criteria for a mental disorder in the past 12 months [ABS, 2007]. However, it doesn't have to be this way. A major risk factor of developing a mental disorder is one's loneliness or disconnection with others. This is one of the factors which can be changed through meaningful conversations with each other. I'm not too fussed about donations, but I do want to ask for one thing. Start a meaningful conversation. It might be very uncomfortable at the start, but the chance that they might relate is higher than you think. However, any amount of money you want to give will help in spreading awareness around having the meaningful conversations we aren't having with each other. Winson.
