According to the World Health Organisation, 1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems at some point in their lifetime, but only two thirds of people with mental health issues will ever seek professional help. I want to help reduce the stigma around mental health and break down the many barriers (social, financial & lack of access to professional services) that prevent people from getting the mental health services they require. I’ve had my own wobbles with depression over the years, and know many friends who have also had their own mental health struggles. Those of who you know me know that I also like throw my weight behind a great cause & give back when I can. I’ll be fundraising over the next few months for Sydney Running Festivals 2019 charity partner, Beyond Blue. Beyond Blue are a non profit organisation who are available for everyone in Australia – at work, home, school, online and in communities across the country. Their work to support people, continue their research and education relies on grants and donations. I'm running my first full marathon in September 2019. Considering exercise & running are know to be great for mental health, fundraising and helping to spread awareness of a fantastic Australian non-profit is the next logical step.
