I haven't got a backstory in the area of mental health, however, 2018 was probably one of my unhappiest and worst years mentally, even though I am in one of the most relaxed places in the world and by comparison, probably a year that people in a bad mental state would envy. I was caught up in making "enough" money to take home instead of enjoying where I was. I worked all the hours available, smoked every day, drank most weekends and in my free time, sat in a dark room playing PlayStation, eating crisps. Coming in to 2019 I decided to change in order to become fitter, healthier and happier. I started getting my 10,000 steps a day, eating 2,000 calories a day and saying yes to new experiences. As the 10,000 steps became easy I aimed for 12,500, signed up to a gym and then started to jog. I became more and more confident and decided I could run the City2Surf 14Km fun run. Now in training for C2S, I have joined the free training group, completed my first 10km race and signed up to this half marathon. I was in a bad place in 2018 and want to raise a small bit of awareness on how small daily alterations can compound into massive changes. 7/8 months ago I wouldn't have even considered a long evening walk, never mind a half marathon. Beyond Blue is one of the major charities for the Blackmores Half Marathon and as good a cause as any for my first fundraising attempt. Please donate what you can to a charity that can help people in a worse place than ourselves. Cheers! Beyond Blue Intro: "I’ve created this page to make a difference in the lives of people affected by anxiety, depression and suicide. I want to reduce the stigma and break down the barriers that prevent people from speaking up and reaching out. Beyond Blue is here for everyone in Australia – at work, home, school, online and in communities across the country. Support me now in my participation at Blackmores Sydney Running Festival to help all Australians achieve their best possible mental health."
